Venice to Croatia by ferry

Current status (checked 3 Oct 2026)
The season is nearly over. Adriatic Lines' 2026 timetables run to 13 October, and by now most routes have stopped. Pula's last timetable block ended on 29 September, and Umag sailed only on Wednesdays from 1 July to 26 August. What is left: Poreč on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, Rovinj on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5 October, and Piran on Saturdays until 10 October. The last sailings are on Tuesday 13 October. Adriatic Lines describes the service as running from May to October.
The crossing: operator, vessels, time
The only operator we could confirm for 2026 is Adriatic Lines, which is run by the Kompas travel agency. Its fast catamarans connect Venice with Pula, Rovinj, Poreč and Umag in Croatia and with Piran in Slovenia. The operator gives the crossing as about three hours; the 2026 timetables show anything from 3 to 4 and a half hours, depending on the route and the day.
Two catamarans serve the route. The Prince of Venice was built in Australia and refitted in 2016; it carries 328 passengers at 23 knots, with air conditioning and a bar. The Anđela was built in 2010; it carries 250 passengers at 33 knots, with air conditioning and a coffee bar. These are passenger boats: the operator's pages list tickets, bicycles and luggage and no vehicle fares, so do not plan on taking a car.
Season and sailing days for 2026
In the direction Venice to Croatia, boats leave San Basilio in the afternoon and arrive in the evening. These are the timetables for the part of the season that is still open or just closed; each route has its own set of dates, so read the operator's timetable image for the day you want.
- Poreč, 7 September to 13 October: Tuesday and Thursday, leaving 16:45 (arriving 20:00, or 20:45 from 6 October); Saturday, leaving 17:00, arriving 21:30.
- Rovinj, 5 to 13 October: Tuesday and Thursday, leaving 16:45, arriving 19:45.
- Piran, 2 May to 10 October: Saturday, leaving 17:00, arriving 20:00.
- Pula, 21 to 29 September: Monday and Friday at 17:00 (arriving 21:00), Tuesday and Thursday at 16:30 (arriving 20:00). Season over.
- Umag, 1 July to 26 August: Wednesday at 16:45, arriving 19:45. Season over.
In July and August the timetables add sailings on other days, and a few dates have special times. The operator pitches the route mainly as day trips from Istria to Venice, and the Venice departure is one evening boat per route on the days it runs, not a frequent service.
Departing from Venice
Every Adriatic Lines boat leaves from the San Basilio cruise terminal, at the end of the Zattere, about 500 metres from the church of San Sebastiano (Fondamenta Zattere al Ponte Lungo). The operator asks you to arrive at least 60 minutes before departure for check-in and boarding.
Cars can reach only Piazzale Roma and Tronchetto in Venice, and the operator warns parking there is expensive. From Piazzale Roma it is about 1 km on foot or 20 minutes on vaporetto line 2; from the railway station or Tronchetto it is about 2 km, 10 to 20 minutes on line 2. From the Marco Polo airport, ACTV bus 5 goes to Piazzale Roma in about 30 minutes. From Treviso airport use the ATVO shuttle to Piazzale Roma.
Onboard and what a ticket includes
Seating is in an air-conditioned saloon, and refreshments are sold on board. The pages list no cabins; this is a crossing of about three hours. The ticket price includes the crossing and all port taxes. A bicycle costs 25 euros one way and an extra bag 5 euros.
Arriving in Istria
The ports are in the towns. Pula's ferry terminal, the Riječki gat, is just below the Roman Arena. In Poreč the port is in the centre at the end of the Riva, and cars are not allowed into the centre. Rovinj's port, Valdibora, is on the north side of the old town. Umag's is in the centre near Trg Slobode, and Piran's is in the middle of the town, with the border control at the end of the longest pier, by the red lighthouse. For Poreč, Umag and Piran the operator suggests parking outside the centre and walking to the port.
We have no Istrian destination pages yet, so there is nothing to link for the peninsula itself. The nearest of our pages are the Kvarner islands, which are reached from Istria by the Brestova-Porozina ferry: Cres and Lošinj.
Onward from Istria
croatianferries.com covers the ferries that start in Istria. See the Pula port page and the Brestova-Porozina crossing to Cres. The line from Pula towards Zadar, which our timetable data lists as calling at Mali Lošinj, Susak, Unije, Ilovik and Silba, is on its own route page; check there for the dates it runs.
Documents
Italy, Croatia and Slovenia are all in the Schengen area. Adriatic Lines still requires a valid passport or an EU identity card from every passenger, children included, and says border control applies at the ports.
Booking and prices
Book on Adriatic Lines' Venice to Croatia page. The operator's 2026 one-way price list, in euros per adult, with children aged 3 to 11 at half price and under-3s free:

Venezia Lines also advertises Venice and Istria routes under its own name, but its website shows no 2026 timetable and still carries a 2022 copyright line, so we cannot confirm it sails this year. Ask Venezia Lines before relying on it. For Adriatic Lines in Istria, the Kompas office in Poreč answers on +385 52 451 200.
