Pag
What it is
Pag is a long, low, near-treeless island known for its cheese, lace-making and salt pans, and — at its northern end around Novalja's Zrće beach — some of the loudest summer nightlife on this coast. The rest of the island is a quiet, almost lunar landscape.
Who it suits
Novalja and Zrće suit a club-holiday crowd; Pag town, the salt pans and the southern coast suit the opposite kind of trip entirely — quiet, dry, and given over to sheep and salt rather than beach bars.
When to go
Zrće's clubs run through July–August; outside that window Pag is a quiet, windswept, off-season kind of island.
How to get there
Pag is bridge-connected to the mainland near Zadar, so no ferry is needed for most arrivals from the south. A separate car ferry, Prizna–Žigljen (Jadrolinija, 20 min), crosses at the island's north end and is the shorter route in from the Rijeka/Kvarner side, rather than driving the length of the island from the bridge.
